Federal Lead Paint Law A new federal law went in to effect April 2010, concerning lead paint. If your house was built before 1978, everything that has to be done in repairs or replacements, are estimated to cost at least double, not to mention the cost of the test for the existence of lead. If your thinking about buying or own a house built before 1978, talk to contractors as to the cost of any anticipated repairs, additions, new kitchens, new decks etc. Anything that was painted with lead paint, has to be sectioned off and contained, wrapped in 6 mil plastic, and carted away.
